Contact Prints

Contact Prints

For these Prints, we had a white board and Ink with a roller. What we had todo is place the white board down, and then we had to pour some ink into it. Then we had to spread the ink around with the roller. We had to make sure it was an even spread otherwise when it comes to the drawing, it will all just over flow and nothing will be visible. After this we had to place the A4 sheet onto the ink and sketch out the 3D sculpture we had built from different angles and in different colours. I honestly am not a fan of printing at all however I am very happy with the outcome of my Prints as I mixed in a different range of techniques into mine. I double printed with two colours onto one, I mirrors one onto another piece of paper, one was a basic print and the other was a zoomed in version of the basic print.

Abstract Collaboration Piece & 3 Layered Drawings

Abstract Collaboration

For those piece, we had 8 different sheets of A2 paper around the room and 8 different sets of media placed at each of the sheets. We had to walk around the room and drawing either media that was nearby but we wasn't allowed to use the same media that is already on that piece of paper. We were given sheets of artists to be inspired by and we had to just go with how we felt and not follow a structure item. I was very please taking part in this process as it wa sinterestijg to see how each person would use each media and how they would drawi with it, for example when using the gum tape, I rolled my in and created a wave effect where as people where just sticking it down so I manipulated it into a different way compared to everyone else which I found interesting.

3 Layerd Darwings

For this piece, we had the still life setup in front of us and we had an A3 paper and pencil in front of us. We had to draw a section of the still life setup in front of us in 5 minutes then moved around to another section and over lapped that into the previous drawing and then done that once again. So by the end we had a huge composition of 3 different areas of the same setup.

I liked doing this piece however there wasn't much done to it after that lesson. I felt it was strong the way I left it and I just wanted it to be a sketch, I didn't want any sign of improvement or extras onto it.

3D Wire Scuplture

3D Sculpture

Here, we were given the task of creating a large 3D scuplture of and still life object of our choice. The sculpture was to be made of wire for the structure and tissue paper to add the colour and finish off the frame work to make it look like an actual object. For my sculpture, I choice to give myself a bit of a task so I decided to do a large basket and to fill it with a bottle of wine, a blanket, a sausage roll, a Plate and Spoon and finally a cup/mug.

To be honest, this was my least favourite thing todo so far as it was very painful and very annoying to have the paitence of doing it. It was a very time consuming piece only because ending the ends of the wire to tighten it securely was painful on the fingers as it was quite sharp and very hard to reach into the centre of it without destroying any of the frame work. Sticking the tissue paper was also a struggle because guessing the proportions of the sides and hoping it fit was quite a hard task as it's 3D I wasn't really able to measure them up against the paper so it was a guessing game when doing th evil or aspect of the piece.

In the future o don't see myself following this technique through as it wasn't he most enjoyable piece for me todo and it wasn't really something I see fitting into my own asthetic/ personal work however it was good trying out as I've never done anything like that before.

Batik

Batik Piece's

Here, we were set the task to create 3 A3 pieces of work using he technique of Batik. To start off l, we had to heat up the wax balls in the heater where it would condense down into a hot liquid form that we will later be able to use to draw with. Once the heating process was done we used a batik tool that was able to contain the wax safely and had a whole at the point in a pencil shape to make it easier to draw with but also to still be accurate and stable. The problem with this technique is that is the tool isoht of the heater for more than enough time, it will freeze back into a solid state and block the opening therefor me stopping the ability to draw.

For me personally, I enjoy using this technique as it was very free and allowed me to try something new that I hadn't used before which I found very interesting. I am very happy with the outcome of my batik pieces as they are very bright and the ink that we used worked very well against the candle wax. They also blended very nice which I also liked, they also have a very japenese vibe to them which I really like as it's very different and unique.

Mark Making and Ink Drawings

Mark Making and Ink Drawings

Here, I was given a box full of random materials e.g. An Acorn, String, Lollipop Stems, Wire and so on. With these materials, I was also given a pink ink pot, with these two items I had to create a chart of eight squares and label each one with each of the items in the box. I had to manipulate each of the items into creating different marks which I would then use later on in the drawings we had to produce . I enjoyed doing this as I was able to see how each item would be able to cooperate twowards the drawings and wether or not they worked well as a mark Making tool.

When drawing from the still life setup I used paper towel and the lollipop stems and just about that really, they were the only two items I felt the most comfortable using after testing them all out. I am happy with my outcomes however I don't like them personally, I just don't find them exciting or have any characteristics about them that make them stand out, and they don't resemble me through them which I don't like, to improve I could spend some more time on them and add more colour possibly which I think would make them stand it more and be more exciting.

Cut-Outs Testing and Work

Cut-Outs Testing and Work

Here, we were given the task of using a craft knife and a sheet of A4 paper in order to create a table worth of try outs and getting the hang of using the craft knife safely in an artistic way and also the pieces that I was able to create once I had the hang of things.

When testing the craft knife, I was able to adapt to how to use it fairly quickly, I began by adding some folds and simple lines/fringe affects into my testing which I found fairly easy to start with, I then began creating a spiral effect which allowed me to see how I could use the knife in a round way instead it f just straight lines therefore allowing me to see how the knife works with curves. This then allowed me to create a house shape just to involve a combination of the two.

Once I was done playing around on the testing, I had a still life setup in front of me which I then went straight into drawing with the knife, I didn't want to sketch it out earlier just to give myself more of a challenge of drawing free with the knife and not just following a sketch. Drawing the Citroen was fairly simple so I decided to ad some folds and 3D elements to the piece, I even managed to make a moving element to the piece on the stool leg there this shows more skill and technique rather than just carving out the shapes and saying I'm done, I wanted to give my self more of a challenge. In my pinion o believe I was fairly accurate with what I was doing and I believe I got the shapes done very accurately, however to improve I believe I could add even more 3D effects that I had practiced earlier and maybe added some tonal effect or texture with the knife e.g cross hatching or simple fine lines just to add that extra piece however i am fairly happy with the outcome.

Charcoal and Chalk Studies

Charcoal and Chalk Studies

Here, I was given the task of doing an A1 drawing of a still life setup in the centre of the room in charcoal. I enjoyed using the charcoal when doing this piece as I believe it was fairly easy to manipulate into the way I wanted it to. I was able to gain a high amount of tone and detail as well as a accurate shape of the setup in front of me without it all mixing together and creating a very misty smudge look, I was able to maintain a high contrast between the lines and the shading of my charcoal which I really liked.

I really love the high amount of contrast I was able to achieve with the charcoal without over smudging and without loosing the initial shape of the piece. I think that was needed with this drawing to show the examiner that I have that strong ability to keep that level of detail alive with such a difficult media to use in that manner, I believe this will make me stand out from the rest of the class highly due to how sharp mine looks compared to others.

To improve on this piece, I believe that I could finish the piece as a whole and include highlight and with a rubber to bring even more contrast to my piece and also just to show that level of skill in being able to use the rubber in the correct manner without over doing so.

Liverpool Palm House

Liverpool Palm House

As a class, we done a class trip to the Liverpool Palm House where we were able to do some sketches of it and get a chance to see how we all seen it in our own point of view. To start with, we took around 5 minutes to gather a load of pictures just so we had some first hand research that we could manipulate and play around with once we got back to the class room, once we had done that we took our sketchbooks out and had a range of different medias including: pencil, fine-liner and charcoal which we done 5 minutes sketches of different areas of the palm House in order to gather a range of different techniques and skills through the sketches. Once our drawings we done we would gather around in a group and place our books to the floor; in doing so, we were the given pros and cons about our sketches what what we could improve on in the future and what we had done well in the time given.

The trip all together was really interesting and I was able to have an experience of using different medias in such a short amount of time and seeing how well I could use them and what I could improve on. I also managed to work out what attracted me the most as an artist and it was the statues placed around the palm house, I believe portraiture is my strongest point therefore these statutes helped me bring that skill forward and also give a new point of view of the palm House from the rest of the group, it made me stand out.
