Charcoal and Chalk Studies
Here, I was given the task of doing an A1 drawing of a still life setup in the centre of the room in charcoal. I enjoyed using the charcoal when doing this piece as I believe it was fairly easy to manipulate into the way I wanted it to. I was able to gain a high amount of tone and detail as well as a accurate shape of the setup in front of me without it all mixing together and creating a very misty smudge look, I was able to maintain a high contrast between the lines and the shading of my charcoal which I really liked.
I really love the high amount of contrast I was able to achieve with the charcoal without over smudging and without loosing the initial shape of the piece. I think that was needed with this drawing to show the examiner that I have that strong ability to keep that level of detail alive with such a difficult media to use in that manner, I believe this will make me stand out from the rest of the class highly due to how sharp mine looks compared to others.
To improve on this piece, I believe that I could finish the piece as a whole and include highlight and with a rubber to bring even more contrast to my piece and also just to show that level of skill in being able to use the rubber in the correct manner without over doing so.
