Portraiture - Chuck Close

For our portraiture we began by looking at a variation of artists who specialise in mostly tonal work. I began by looking at Chuck Close. to me I was more interested in his application of the paint with his fingers and brushes rather than the media itself. I wanted to recreate some of his work however using my own style. I began by taking some photos of other members of the class, by doing this I had a primary set of research to back up my painting. I started off by doing smaller versions of the paintings using my fingers. I used basic Acrylic paints in monochrome colours. I am really happy with the outcome of the first try out as it showed how I can change my style and manipulate someone else to make it look like my own.


I then went on to-do a larger version of this, however this time I decided to add a tint of red instead of white. this to me gave it a more tribal / native look especially with it being larger hand prints. I am very happy with the outcome of this piece as it shows my choice in scale as well as my ability to do things on a larger scale. I then went on to further increase the scale where I done a time-lapse in the green screen room. I wanted to further increase the scale to further show my ability to play around with scale and dimensions.


Overall I am happy with this artist research as well as the ability to try another style that I am not particularly comfortable doing however now I have really began to enjoy doing it.
